DeForest Kelley (1920-1999) passed away on June 11th at the age of 79. He was a beloved actor, and is best remembered for his role as Dr. Leonard McCoy in Star Trek. Kelley was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 20th, 1920. He began acting in high school in Atlanta, and went on to study at the University of Georgia. After spending several years in the Army during the second World War, he pursued his passion for acting in Hollywood. He appeared in numerous films including Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Shake Hands with the Devil, The Seven Little Foys, and The Gunrunner. He also had recurring roles in The Big Country and Bonanza. Kelley achieved great fame for his role as Dr. Leonard McCoy in the original Star Trek series in the 1960s. He portrayed the character in the films Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. He went on to reprise the role for the first three seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. At the time of his death, DeForest Kelley was survived by his wife Carolyn and his children, Karen, Debo, and Mark. Kelley was an accomplished actor with a passion for his craft and a great appreciation of his fan base. He was a kind and generous man who touched the lives of so many people. He will be greatly missed.
