On February 11, 1968, Deendayal Upadhyaya, a leading figure in India's liberation movement, passed away at the age of 51. He was a veteran politician and an influential thinker, as well as the president of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, a right-wing Indian political party. Upadhyaya was a renowned proponent of what he called Integral Humanism, a philosophy that emphasized social harmony. He authored many influential works, including three books on Integral Humanism and "Panchashika", a collection of critiques of pre-independent India's socio-political morality. He was actively involved in the Quit India Movement, and held the office of Minister of Industry and Labour in Uttar Pradesh. Upadhyaya's legacy continues to inspire many modern-day politicians and public figures. He will be remembered for his tireless advocacy for the liberation of India, his influential works and his commitment to the idea of Integral Humanism.
