Larry Linville, beloved actor, writer, and director, passed away on April 10, 2000, at the age of 60. Born in Ojai, California, Larry was an alumni of Michigan State University and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Larry’s career began in the late 1960s, starring in many commercials and stage plays. He became internationally renowned for his role as Major Frank Burns in the popular television series “M*A*S*H” from 1972 to 1977. He made several appearances in other television shows and films, including “The Richard Pryor Show,” “Riptide,” “Tales from the Crypt,” and “Babylon 5.” In the 1980s, Larry turned his attention to writing, scripting for television shows and directing for Turner Network Television. He also acquired writing credits for the 1996 “Best Motion Picture” winner, “The English Patient.” Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry was also a charter member of the “The Land Conservation Fund,” a conservation organization devoted to preserving the natural beauty of New Mexico. Larry is survived by his wife Pat Linville, a brother, a sister, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew. The family asks that gifts in memory of Larry be sent to the “The Land Conservation Fund,” in lieu of flowers.
