(Edgar) Preston Buchanan, age 76, of Los Angeles, CA passed away on April 4, 1979. Edgar was born on March 20, 1903, in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, the son of a dairy farmer. Edgar followed his acting dreams to Los Angeles where he began his career in 1934. His talent and hard work earned him steady roles in films such as “The War of the Worlds” and “Second Chorus.” His career bloomed in the 1950s when he was placed in front of cameras as a recurring character on several television shows, most notably “Petticoat Junction,” in which he played the beloved “Uncle Joe Carson.” Edgar’s acting career spanned four decades and provided entertainment to generations of viewers. Additionally, Edgar was an active member in the Screen Actors Guild and served as a president of the organization for several years. Edgar is survived by his two sons, Jimmy and Billy, as well as a grandchild. Family and friends will remember him fondly for his wit, charisma, and unwavering devotion to the art of acting. He will be greatly missed by all.
