Ernest Borgnine, a prolific actor and winner of an Academy Award, passed away on July 8, 2012, at the age of 95. Borgnine was born in Hamden, Connecticut, in 1917. He achieved early success in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1935 to 1941 and received a variety of commendations and awards. In 1945, Borgnine began his long and successful acting career, and in 1955 he starred as Marty in the classic romantic drama "Marty", for which role he received the Academy Award for Best Actor. He subsequently went on to appear in over 200 movies and television series, often playing a character that still resonates with the public today. Throughout his life, he was involved in various charities, working in notable organizations such as the Lucky Strike Hit Parade of Stars, a fundraiser for Variety Club. His charitable spirit and sense of humor earned him a number of honorary awards from colleges and universities. Borgnine had a love for life and a beloved family that will miss him dearly. He is survived by his five children and two stepchildren.
