It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fearless Nadia, born Mary Ann Evans, on 9 January 1908. She was 88 years old. Fearless Nadia was a renowned Indian film actress, stuntwoman and film producer who was renowned for her stunt roles, particularly a daring riding skills. She is remembered for her stellar performances in the 1933 film ‘Hunterwali’ as ‘The Fearless Hunterwali’, and its 1935 sequel, 'Hunterwali Ki Beti’. Her other well-known roles include roles in 'Diamond Queen' (1940) and 'Circus Queen' (1943). She gave a whole new dimension to the screen performances of Indian actresses of her time and was a trailblazer for female stunt actors. An icon in the silver screen, her portrayal of ‘Hunterwali’ in ‘Hunterwali’ led her to be known as ‘Bollywood's First Stunt Woman’. She was truly an inspiration to many, and a role model fearlessly playing out the lead roles, flaunting ‘power and strength’ and addressing taboo topics and unspoken topics of her time. We bid farewell to Fearless Nadia and her remarkable legacy with heavy hearts.
