Floyd Collins, a well-known explorer, passed away on February 13, 1925 at the age of 37. Born on July 20, 1887, in Auburn, Kentucky, Collins discovered a passion for caving at a young age and became one of the foremost experts in the field. With an insatiable curiosity and unwavering determination, Collins led numerous expeditions to explore and map out uncharted caves across the country. He was a pioneer in the field of cave exploration and his contributions greatly expanded our knowledge of these mysterious underground wonders. Collins gained widespread fame in 1925 when he became trapped in Sand Cave in Mammoth Cave National Park. Despite numerous efforts by search and rescue teams, Collins was unable to be rescued and ultimately succumbed to his injuries after more than two weeks underground.
