Michael Collins (1890-1922) passed away on August 22nd 1922 at the age of 31. Michael was born in Woodfield, County Cork, Ireland in 1890 to Mary Anne and Michael Joseph Collins. He was an Irish revolutionary leader and became prominent in the Easter Rising of 1916. He was a driving force behind the IRA and became prominent in the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. During his lifetime, Michael joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood and the Gaelic League. He also founded the National Aid Association and the Army Comrades Association. He was one of the fourteen members of the First Dáil, the first are Council of the Irish Free State, and was the first Minister for Finance in the Provisional Irish Government in 1922. Michael passed away in 1922 but his legacy lives on. His work to fight for Irish independence and free Ireland from British rule changed the course of Irish history and will live on for many generations to come. He will be remembered for his bravery, hard work and leadership in the fight for independence.
