Frank Gifford, former professional American football player, sportscaster and actor, died on August 9, 2015 at the age of 84. G born at Santa Monica, California, on August 16, 1930. At the University of Southern California, Gifford excelled as a Running Back and Defensive Back, while playing for the Trojans. In 1952, he was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the NFL draft, and he would remain with the Giants for 12 seasons as a Running Back, Flanker, and Kicker. During this time, Gifford was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a five-time All-Pro. In 1956, he was NFL American Conference Player of the Year, and, in 1960, he was the Most Valuable Player of the NFL. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977. In 1971, Gifford began a long and respected career in sportscasting for CBS and ABC. He was known for hosting Monday Night Football for more than a decade, and was a fixture of ABC's Wide World of Sports coverage. In his personal life, he was married to TV personality Kathie Lee Gifford from 1986 until his death. He is survived by the couple's two children and his four children from a previous marriage.
