Frankie Fraser, legendary London gangster, passed away at 90 years old in London on November 26th, 2014. Born in south London in 1924, Fraser held many political affiliations throughout his life, and had a long-standing criminal history that began in the 1940s. He was described as a ‘hard-working, charismatic figure’ by many who knew him, who often handled matters ‘in the old-fashioned way’. Fraser was unashamed of his criminal history which spanned more than 50 years and involved convictions for armed robbery, conspiracy to commit violence and attempted murder - he described himself during his life as a ‘solution provider’ for many of London’s underworld figures. He was an infamous face in London’s criminal scene, and rose to international fame when his involvement in the Great Train Robbery became public knowledge through the tabloids. Though his life was mired by controversy and crime, Fraser was much loved by many - he was fiercely loyal to those he was close to, and spoke publicly many times about the importance of family. Fraser remained a vibrant part of his community up until his death, and will remain an iconic figure in London’s criminal history. He is survived by his wife and children.
