Fred Thompson, beloved actor, lawyer and politician, passed away on November 1, 2015. He was 73 years old. His long and varied career began when he graduated from the Vanderbilt University Law School in 1967. He was best known for his appearances in several films and television shows including In the Line of Fire, Die Hard 2, Cape Fear, and Law & Order. In addition, he served as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee from 1994 to 2003 and made a brief run for the Republican nomination for president in 2008. Thompson's impact extended far beyond the worlds of entertainment and politics. As an advocate for justice, he argued eight United States Supreme Court cases. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and as Chairman of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament. Thompson was a passionate believer in the power of democracy and was an early supporter of the Tea Party movement. Fred Thompson is survived by his second wife, Jeri, two daughters, and five grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
