Hunter S. Thompson (July 18, 1937 - February 20, 2005) was an American journalist and author widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in 20th-century American culture. Thompson was well known for his highly unorthodox, often disorganized writing style, which he referred to as "Gonzo journalism," and for his extensive use of language often considered explicit. Thompson's career spanned more than six decades and was characterized by a passionate commitment to his craft and consistently innovative and original works. He wrote extensively on a range of topics in magazines, such as The Sunday Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, and Esquire, and books, such as Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Curse of Lono. As a widely recognized and influential figure in 20th-century American culture, Thompson left behind a lasting legacy that continues to inspire countless new and aspiring authors and journalists.
