Freddie Starr, legendary British comedian and television personality, passed away on the 9th of May, 2019, at the age of 76. Born Frederick Leslie Fowell in Liverpool, England, in 1943, Starr was a household name in the 1970s, rising in popularity with his television appearance on the Michael Parkinson show, and became known for his zany, often outrageous comedy performances. His 1972 single, "It's You," was a top sensation in the UK music charts. Starr was often impersonated by comics and television personalities. Over the course of his career, Starr worked alongside some of the UK's biggest names in entertainment, including Bruce Forsyth and Kenny Everett. On the big screen, Starr starred in films such as The Ups and Downs of a Handyman and it's sequel, The Musical. Famously living with a monkey, Starr often appeared in the tabloids, though many of the stories were untrue. He was court-exonerated after being accused in a 2012 investigation into abuse from the 1970s. Starr's wild, eccentric personality made him an iconic figure on the British comedy scene. He will be dearly remembered by fans and friends alike.
