Frederick III, German Emperor, was born on October 18, 1831, in Potsdam, Prussia. He ascended to the throne as the German Emperor and King of Prussia in March 1888, following the death of his father, Wilhelm I. His reign was notably brief, lasting only 99 days until his own death on June 15, 1888, at the age of 56. Frederick was a proponent of liberal reforms and sought to implement changes in both governance and military policies during his time in power. He was particularly interested in enhancing civil liberties and supporting constitutional governance, which was in contrast to the more conservative policies of his predecessors. He was married to Victoria, Princess Royal of the United Kingdom, which further aligned the German Empire with British interests. Their union was seen as a symbol of the interconnectedness of European monarchies. Frederick III was known for his advocacy for the modernization of Germany and his desire for a more progressive approach to politics. His untimely death marked the end of a potential shift in German imperial policy. He was succeeded by his son, Wilhelm II, who took a markedly different approach to governance.
