Freeman Dyson (1923-2020) passed away on February 28, 2020, at the age of 96. Dyson is internationally renowned for his scientific achievements and his involvement in many fields of mathematics, physics and astrophysics. He was a professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, was the author of dozens of books and articles, and was an influential thinker in theoretical physics. He was awarded numerous honors for his work, including the Oersted Medal, the Harvey Prize, the Max Planck Medal and the Enrico Fermi Award. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and was voted the International Space Scientist of the Year in 1970. Survived by his sons George, Ewan, and Isaac, two stepchildren, and nine grandchildren, Dyson was an inspirational figure involved in the development of ideas that shaped our understanding of the world. His life's work touched many, and his legacy will be long felt within the scientific community.
