On April 26, 2013, George Jones, an iconic country music artist and beloved performer, passed away at the age of 81. George was one of the foremost singers in the history of country music. Born in Saratoga, Texas, on September 12, 1931, George was best known for his soulful, heartfelt performances and songwriting. He released over 150 Billboard-charting songs during his lifetime, including classics like “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and “White Lightning”. Throughout his career he won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards and multiple Country Music Association awards. He was finally inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry in 1992. He was also inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. George’s powerful, emotive style inspired generations of musicians, both in and outside of country music. His music will continue to be loved and cherished for many years to come.
