Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, a prominent American socialite and heiress, passed away on February 13, 1965, at the age of 60. Born in 1904, Gloria was the daughter of millionaire Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt and socialite Gloria Laura Mercedes Morgan. She was an early example of the American "It Girl," and her life and activities were often followed in the American press. Throughout her life, Gloria fostered creative endeavors, befriending the likes of Dorothy Parker and Cole Porter. She also had a long-standing interest in the motion picture industry and was an early investor in films like "Gone with the Wind." Gloria was the matriarch of the Vanderbilt family and is survived by her son, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper, author and architect, and other members of of the Vanderbilt family. Her inimitable spirit and style will be remembered fondly.
