Gordie Howe, affectionately known as Mr. Hockey, passed away on June 10, 2016 at 88 years old. He was born on March 31, 1928 in Floral, Saskatchewan, and began his professional hockey career in 1945 with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. With a career spanning six decades, he became one of the most iconic and decorated athletes in hockey history. Howe won six Hart Trophies as League MVP, six Art Ross Trophies as scoring champion, the Stanley Cup four times with the Red Wings, as well as making 23 NHL All-Star teams. He was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL players in history and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972. Off the ice, Howe was notably committed to helping charities and community activities. He was devoted to his family, who survive him, and was known for his generous spirit. Howe will always be remembered for his incredible toughness, strength and unwavering passion for the game. He will be deeply missed by the hockey world and countless fans of the sport.
