On June 25th, 1988, Hillel Slovak, age 26, tragically passed away. From humble beginnings, Slovak rose swiftly in the music scene, playing with the group What is This?, alongside his friend Anthony Kiedis, before joining the iconic Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1983. Slovak released two critically acclaimed albums with the group, 'Freaky Styley' and 'The Uplift Mofo Party Plan', the former earning a Grammy Award nomination. His work on the album 'Mother's Milk' posthumously featured the beloved 'Knock Me Down'. Many have credited Slovakia's influence in the Chili Peppers for allowing the group to establish the unique style of funk rock that echoes in their musical catalogue today. He will forever be remembered for his deeply influential work in the world of music. Slovak leaves behind a legacy of abundant creativity, love, and a touch of funk.
