It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Howard McNear on January 3, 1969. He was 63 years old. Howard was born on October 9, 1905, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was raised. He trained in radio broadcasting and theatre before eventually settling on a career as an actor. During his lifetime, his career spanned 60 years and included prominent roles in over 100 productions on stage, film, and television. He is the most remembered for his role as restaurant barrista Floyd the Barber in the 1960s Andy Griffith Show. Howard passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends. He will always be remembered for his impressive career, his kind and lighthearted spirit, and the faithfulness and sincerity he demonstrated in all aspects of his life. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him greatly.
