It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ian Robins Dury, who passed away on March 27, 2000, at the age of 57. He was born on May 12, 1942 in Upminster, Essex, England and was a passionate artist, musician, and actor. As a musician, Ian was best known for his innovative style, combining elements of punk and rock music. He rose to fame in the late 1970s with his band, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and was known for hit songs such as "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" and "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll". Throughout his musical career, Ian received several awards, including the Ivor Novello Award, and was part of the first ever rock performance on Top of the Pops. He was also considered the godfather of British punk. Besides music, Ian also acted in several films and TV series, most notably appearing in the movie Stardust. Ian will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and remembered for his passion, creativity and impact on British music.
