Robert Oppenheimer (April 22, 1904 - February 18, 1967) was an American theoretical physicist who is often referred to as the "father of the atomic bomb" for his major role in the Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer acquired degrees from Harvard University, the University of Göttingen, and Cambridge University, and held professorial posts at the University of California, Berkeley and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Oppenheimer was an influential contributor to the field of quantum theory and was credited with pioneer works in quantum system theory and nonlinear dynamics. In addition to his scientific pursuits, Oppenheimer was a devoted peace activist and campaigner against nuclear weapons. Oppenheimer passed away February 18, 1967, at age 62.
