Jack LaLanne, a pioneer of the modern fitness and exercise industry, died on 2011-01-23 at the age of 96. He was widely credited with being the first celebrity fitness trainer, and he inspired generations of Americans to get fit and live healthy lives through his TV shows, books and public appearances. LaLanne was born in San Francisco in 1914, and credited his strong fitness program for his amazing longevity and vitality. He was known for his iconic white jumpsuit, which he wore on TV for over three decades. LaLanne was the creator of a number of gyms, and his fitness program included weightlifting, calisthenics and promoting healthier eating habits. He received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to radio and television. In his later years LaLanne continued to inspire people to stay fit and healthy. He was a highly influential individual in the history of physical fitness, and his legacy will continue.
