Jackie Cooper, the beloved actor, died on May 3, 2011, at the age of 88. An iconic figure of his time and an Academy Award-nominated actor, Jackie was a beloved veteran of television, film, and the stage. He began his career in the late 1920s, appearing in silent films at the age of eight and winning a special Academy Juvenile Award in 1929 for his portrayal of Mickey, the title character in Warner Bros' Skippy. His acting career spanned eight decades, including roles in such classic films as the original 'Tarzan' series (1932–1943), Boys Town (1938), and The Inspector General (1949). His television role as Perry White, editor of the Daily Planet in the Superman television series (1952-1958) brought him lasting fame and legions of fans internationally. Jackie also served in both World War II and the Korean War, and authored several books describing his experiences in the military. Jackie is survived by his wife and stepson, as well as his many friends and admirers from the world of entertainment. His talent, genuine personality, and devotion to the craft of acting touched all those around him, and he will be greatly missed.
