Jacques Derrida (1930-2004), a pioneer of the field of deconstruction, sadly passed away on the 9th of October 2004 at the age of 74. Derrida was a professor of philosophy at the École Normale Superieure in Paris, France. He was well known for his groundbreaking theory of deconstruction, as well as his publications of over 40 books and 300 articles, including Of Grammatology, which was first published in 1967. Over the course of his academic career, he lectured around the world, contributing greatly to the field of philosophy and to many universities - including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Irvine, and Cambridge. He will be missed and remembered fondly by his students and peers in the academic community.
