Jean Giraud (1938-2012) died on March 12, 2012, at the age of 73. Born in Nogent-sur-Marne, France, Jean first followed his father in studying architecture until he found his true passion, comics. He dropped out of school at 17 and started working as a comic book artist, often under numbers pseudonyms, such as Mœbius, Gir, Gir & Richard, and L'Incal. Jean's works have been widely featured in many magazines such as Métal hurlant, Pilote and L'Echo des savanes. His most renowned works included Blueberry, Arzach, and The Incal. He received both the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire in 1989 and the Legion of Honour from the French government in 2005. Jean is remembered as one of the most influential figures in both the French comics and Fantasy world. He left behind a great legacy and will always be remembered.
