Jean Kennedy Smith passed away on June 17th at the age of 92. She was the last surviving sibling of President John F. Kennedy and the older sister of Robert F. Kennedy and Edward M. Kennedy. Smith began her career as a teacher at the Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware. She later moved on to become the founding president of Very Special Arts, an organization dedicated to promoting access to the arts for people with disabilities. In 1984, Smith was appointed Ambassador to Ireland by President Ronald Reagan. She served in that role for five years and supported many pivotal moments during the Northern Ireland conflict. In 1991, Smith was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her many accomplishments and humanitarian work which included service in numerous organizations and initiatives. Smith dedicated her life to aiding the disenfranchised. She is survived by her five children, 19 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She will be missed and remembered for her tireless commitment to public service.
