Rose Kennedy (August 22, 1890 – January 22, 1995) passed away at the age of 104 on January 22, 1995. Rose was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to parents Mary Augusta Hickey and Patrick Joseph Kennedy. She went on to marry Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. and become the mother of nine children, including President John F. Kennedy. Over the course of her life, Rose earned a reputation as a philanthropist and advocate for social justice issues. Among her causes were the National Association for Retarded Citizens and Hospice-Fenway Inc. Rose also served as a director of the Kennedy Holding Company and was well-known for her travels abroad, visiting places such as Europe and the Middle East. Her poise and intellect made her a matriarch of her family and a prominent figure in American society. Rose’s passion and dedication to her family, causes, and society at large will be remembered for many years to come.
