Legendary TV talk show host, author, and political commentator, Jerry Springer, died at the age of 79 on April 27, 2023. As the host of The Jerry Springer Show, a television program which ran for more than twenty-five seasons and established him as an iconic talk show host, he pioneered the "unscripted talk show" format. During its peak, The Jerry Springer Show earned several Daytime Emmy Award nominations and widespread recognition that lasted throughout his career. In addition to his talk show success, Springer made appearances on a variety of game and information shows, such as Dancing with the Stars, To Tell the Truth, and the peak quizzer Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, where he won $500,000 to benefit charity. He was also a passionate political commentator, hosting The Jerry Springer Podcast as well as a radio show for years. Though born in London, Springer grew up in the United States, graduating from Northwestern University in 1968 and receiving his law degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1970. He served on the Cincinnati City Council from 1971–1974, later running for mayor in 1977 and briefly hosting a local talk radio show. In the spirit of his famous talk show slogan, "It's time to take out the garbage", Springer will be remembered for his passion for speaking boldly and tackling controversial topics. He is survived by his wife and daughter. Their friends and family are encouraged to remember him by donating to a charity of their choice in his name.

We owe respect to the living; to the dead we owe only truth. Voltaire
