Jill Clayburgh, award-winning actress and longtime advocate for women's rights, died November 5, 2010 at the age of 66. Born April 30, 1944 in New York, Clayburgh studied acting at Carnegie Mellon University, going on to become one of the leading actresses of her generation. A two-time Academy Award nominee for her roles in An Unmarried Woman (1978) and Starting Over (1979), Clayburgh also received Golden Globe nominations for her work in Every Other Weekend (1970), Silver Streak (1976), Semi-Tough (1977), Gable and Lombard (1976), La Luna (1979), and Bridesmaids (2011). Along with acting on stage and screen, Clayburgh was a longtime advocate for women's rights, speaking at the National Women's Political Caucus Convention in 1979 and the United Nations World Conference on Women in 1980. Clayburgh is survived by her husband, playwright David Rabe; their two children, actor Michael and journalist Lily; her longtime companion, choreographer Pat Bowles; and a sister, Carol Clayburgh.
