James (Jim) Bowen (1937-2018), a British comedian, television personality, and game show host, died on March 14, 2018, at the age of 80. Born on 20 August 1937, Bowen grew up in the Preston area and attended Secondary Modern School before enlisting in the Royal Air Force at age 17. Prior to becoming a successful television presenter, Jim Bowen worked as a nightclub stand-up comic and a secondary school teacher. He hosted game shows such as Bullseye from 1981 to 1995 and took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2005. Bowen was a prolific guest on popular UK shows such as The Weakest Link in 2001 and Celebrity Squares in 2009. Jim Bowen's popularity as a game show host led him to appear on the League of Gentlemen in 2000. He also famously hosted the Reading and Leeds Festival of Music, a three-day event in 1977 and 1978. Jim Bowen is survived by his wife Phyllis, their three children and nine grandchildren. He will be remembered for his cheerful joviality and unique ability to entertain generations of television viewers.
