John Matuszak, a Hollywood celebrity and former NFL star, passed away in Los Angeles on June 17th, 1989 at the age of 38. Matuszak was born in Milwaukee, WI and was the first overall draft pick in the 1973 NFL draft. He played five years with the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders, being an integral part of the Raiders' success, and winning two Super Bowls. In the early 80s, he retired from football to pursue a career in acting, and had roles in TV shows, including M*A*S*H and The Dukes of Hazzard, and movies, such as The Goonies and Caveman. He is survived by his mother, Millie, his two brothers, Joseph and Richard, and his companion, Lynn LaPlante. Matuszak will be remembered as an iconic sports figure, and a beloved entertainer. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
