John Mills, beloved team member, actor and producer, passed away on April 23rd, 2005 at 97 years old. John Monroe Mills was born on February 22nd, 1908, in North Elmham, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom. He was one of six children born to Mary and Edward Mills. John Mills' legacy will be remembered for a lengthy career in film and television. He moved to London in 1926 to pursue an acting career and had made a name for himself on the stage by the age of 21. Mills began working in British film in 1935, when he played a supporting role in Things to Come. Mills' most notable film credits also include his Academy Award-winning role in Portrait of a Terrorist in 1947, as well as his roles in Great Expectations (1946), Ryan's Daughter (1970), and Gandhi (1982). As well as acting, he also produced movies, including Scott of the Antarctic (1948), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. John Mills' impact on the film and television world will be forever remembered and his contribution will never be forgotten. He is survived by his three children, Hayley Mills, Juliet Mills, and Jonathan Mills, of his marriage to Mary Hayley Bell in 1941.
