John Singleton passed away on April 29th 2019 at the age of 51. John Singleton was an American film director, screenwriter and producer. He was best known for directing films such as Boyz n the Hood, Higher Learning and Poetic Justice. Singleton made history in 1991 when he became the first African-American and the youngest person to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for his work on Boyz n the Hood. Singleton graduated from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts in 1990. He had a successful career, with his films grossing over $400 million at the box office. His other film credits include 2 Fast 2 Furious and Shaft. His work was praised and honored with many awards throughout his career including an Academy Award nomination, a BAFTA Award nomination and a Grammy Award win. Singleton is survived by his mother Shelia Ward, his father Danny Singleton and his seven children Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis and Seven. He will be greatly missed.
