He was an iconic comedian and television personality who hosted the hit television show, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson from 1962 to 1992. He was born in Corning, Iowa, and raised in Norwalk, Iowa, where he developed an early love of telling jokes and entertaining. He went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in speech and radio. In the 1950s, Johnny Carson began a career in television, with appearances on various variety shows and game shows. This eventually led to him hosting The Tonight Show in 1962, where he remained for nearly 30 years. During this time, he became one of the most respected and popular figures in the entertainment industry, winning several Emmy Awards and demonstrating a razor sharp wit and unparalleled comedic timing. After retiring from The Tonight Show in 1992, Johnny Carson retired from the public eye, preferring to live a private life.
