It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Johnny Horton on November 5th, 1960. He was 35 years old. Johnny Horton was a popular American singer and songwriter, who is most known for his international hits “The Battle of New Orleans”, “Sink the Bismarck”, and “North to Alaska”. He was also an actor, appearing in the western television series “Stories of the Century” and The Springtime of Youth. Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1925, Horton served in the United States Merchant Marine, before he started a career in music. During his career, which spanned eight years, he had multiple top 10 hits, and won a Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970. Horton will be remembered for his unique blend of country, folk, and rockabilly music. He paved the way for a new generation of country and rock musicians, making him an important figure in the history of popular music. He is survived by his mother and father, two sisters, three cousins, and many other loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all.
