It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Joss Ackland, who passed away in London, England, on 19 November 2023 at the age of 95. Ackland had a long and successful career as an actor, staring in more than 100 films and television shows throughout his life. Ackland worked alongside many of the greats; Tony Hancock, Julie Andrews, Whoopi Goldberg, Paul Newman and many more, and earned eight awards from various film and television organizations throughout his life. Joss was born in London on 29 February 1928. He joined the Royal Navy as a young man, before coming out and beginning his acting career shortly after. He made his screen debut in 1960. His career held a mix of dramas, romances, comedies and action/adventure films, making Ackland an integral part of the British entertainment industry. Ackland was married to Pat Sandys in 1953. They had four children and remained married until Pat's death in 2018. Joss was loved by many throughout the world, and his absence will be felt in the world of movie and television. He will be remembered fondly by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him and enjoying his many acting endeavors.
