Bridgeman was born on September 17, 1953, in East Chicago, Indiana. He attended nearby Proviso East High School, where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. In 1971, he was named the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year. After high school, Bridgeman went on to play college basketball at the University of Louisville. During his four years playing for the Cardinals, he became known for his impressive shooting skills and ability to score points. In 1975, he was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. Following his successful college career, Bridgeman was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA draft. He was then immediately traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he spent the majority of his professional basketball career. During his 12-year tenure with the Bucks, Bridgeman became known as a reliable scorer and was even named the team's sixth man of the year in 1986. After retiring from basketball in 1987, Bridgeman turned his attention to the world of business. He used his earnings from the NBA to invest in Wendy's fast-food franchises, eventually becoming the second-largest franchise operator in the United States. He also owned several Chili's and Chili's Too restaurants. In addition to his successful business ventures, Bridgeman was also known for his philanthropy. He was a passionate supporter of various charities and foundations, including the Salvation Army and Special Olympics.
