Kermit Roosevelt, son of President Theodore Roosevelt, passed away on June 4, 1943 at the age of 53. Kermit led an adventurous life of exploration, participating in two scientific expeditions in Africa with his father and serving as an officer during World War I. After the war, he joined the staff of the American Geographical Society and helped organize several important expeditions to various destinations throughout Mexico and Central America. Kermit was a well-known author of many books, which included travelogues, biographies, and two famous works detailing his African travels with his father, Exploration in the Soudan (1909) and African Game Trails: An Account of the African Wanderings of an American Hunter-Naturalist (1910). His contributions to science and literature not only left an important legacy, but will be remembered for generations to come. He will be greatly missed.
