It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gabriel García Márquez, beloved author and Nobel Prize winner. He died on April 17, 2014 at the age of 87. García Márquez is known for his literary works, including the literature classic "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and "Love in the Time of Cholera". His writings were born from his Colombian origins and his style continually defined him as the "magical realist". His works were adapted to film and have garnered worldwide acclaim. García Márquez was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982 and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1975. García Márquez is survived by his wife Mercedes Barcha and their children, Rodrigo and Gonzalo. He will be forever remembered for his prolific and visceral writings. His works will live on, inspiring readers and writers for many years to come.
