Lawrence Phillips, 40, passed away on January 13th, 2016. An exceptionally talented football player, Phillips attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was drafted 6th overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 1996 NFL Draft. He played for the St. Louis Rams, the Miami Dolphins, the San Francisco 49ers, and the NFL Europe outfit, the Barcelona Dragons. He was selected in the 1997 Pro Bowl and had an outstanding season in 1997. Phillips led the St. Louis Rams to the playoffs, where he was remembered for making two of the most significant plays in the team's division-clinching victory over the New Orleans Saints. Although his professional football career was cut short by off-the-field troubles, he continued to send an impact on the game. Phillips coached running backs for the University of Florence and consulted with the now-defunct United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks. Phillips' legacy began on the field, where he was one of the most talented running backs in the NFL. He was remembered for his inspiring play and determined attitude. His impact on football will not be forgotten.
