MF DOOM, a pseudonym used by hip hop artist Daniel Dumile, died on October 31, 2020 at the age of 49. Musically, MF DOOM was known for his unique style of fusing hip-hop and jazz, as well as his quirky lyrics. His ability to blend together multiple genres made him stand out, and a number of acclaimed artists cite him as a major influence in their work. MF DOOM released several solo albums, often with multi-person record companies, as well as several joint projects with artists such as Madlib, Danger Mouse, and CeeLo Green. In addition to his music, MF DOOM also released a comic book series inspired by his albums. Before launching his career as MF DOOM, Dumile performed as Zev Love X in the hip-hop duo KMD, before taking a hiatus from the music industry upon the death of his brother. He returned in 1999 under the MF DOOM name, and released his debut solo album Operation Doomsday. MF DOOM was praised by diverse musicians and industry figures alike and has received a number of awards. In 2002, KMD was inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame. His final album, Born Like This, was listed in multiple publications' best-of-decade lists. At the time of his death, MF DOOM was already recognized as one of the most prolific and influential hip-hop artists of his time. He will live on in his music for generations.
