On April 21st, 1918, the world lost a hero - Manfred von Richthofen, known as the Red Baron. He was only 25 years old. Manfred was born on May 2, 1892 in Silesia, Germany. As a young man, he was a cavalry officer in the German army and soon became a legendary pilot in World War I. He quickly rose through the ranks and led a squadron of fighter pilots called the Flying Circus. He was renowned for his bravery, skill, and tactics. Richthofen achieved 80 confirmed aerial combat victories, making him the top ace fighter pilot in the German Air Force. He was nicknamed the Red Baron for the distinctive red paint on his plane's fuselage. Manfred was shot down in a dogfight over France, and died from his wounds. He will be remembered for his courage, skill and gallantry in the service to his country. May he rest in peace.
