Reinhard Heydrich, born on March 7th 1904 in Halle, Germany, died on June 4th 1942, at 38 years old. Reinhard Heydrich was a senior Nazi official and leader of the SD (Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsführers-SS), intelligence organization in Nazi Germany. He became one of the main architects of the Holocaust. Heydrich rose quickly to importance in the Nazi party, and was appointed by Heinrich Himmler to become deputy head of the Gestapo in 1931. Heydrich also took command of the newly established Sicherheitspolizei (Security Police) in 1934. In 1941 he provided crucial leadership for the German conquest of the Soviet Union, and was then appointed the Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, with the intent of eliminating Czech and Slovak resistance. Heydrich was assassinated on June 4th, 1942 in Prague by Czechoslovakian resistance fighters. He was fatally wounded by the attackers and died a week later. He will be remembered for his importance during the growth of Nazi Germany and his leadership of the Nazi secret police.
