Heinrich Himmler, 44, passed away on 1945-05-23. He was a German Nazi official and a member of the Nazi Party who held positions of power within the Nazi regime. He was the founder and leader of the SS and one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany. Himmler was responsible for the implementation of the infamous “Final Solution”, the genocidal plans to exterminate entire populations considered undesirable by the Nazi regime. Himmler was arrested by British forces on 23 May 1945, at the end of the Second World War in Europe, and he committed suicide shortly thereafter. He is survived by his wife, Margarete, and their two children, Gudrun and Helge.
