Marvin Hagler, a former middleweight boxing champion, passed away on March 13, 2021, at the age of 66. Hagler, born in Newark, New Jersey, was an iconic figure in the boxing world, known for his relentless style of fighting, and for being one of the best middleweights in history. He began his professional boxing career in 1973 and held the undisputed world middleweight title for six years, a feat unmatched by any middleweight since. He had 66 professional fights, of which he won 62. Of those, 52 were KOs and 3 were controversial losses. During his illustrious career, Hagler had memorable fights with Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, and John Mugabi, and held the title for an unparalleled nine-and-a-half years. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993 and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000. He retired from boxing in 1987 and afterwards, re-married and settled in Milan, Italy, where he pursued an acting career, including a role in Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky IV (1985). In the years since, Hagler remained active in promoting the sport of boxing and was the subject of several documentaries. Hagler is survived by his four children.
