Maurizio Gucci, Italian billionaire fashion designer, died on March 27, 1995 at the age of 46. He had been leading the iconic Gucci house of fashion since 1983. Maurizio was born in Rome on October 8, 1949, to Aldo and Rodiana Gucci. He married Patrizia Reggiani in 1972, and had two children, Allegra and Leon. In 1983, Maurizio Gucci inherited the Gucci brand from his father and launched a new era for the fashion label. Under his direction, the company introduced Gucci Garments, Gucci Accessories, Gucci Shoes, and introduced boutiques across the world. Prior to his death, the Gucci label had become a top brand in the luxury designer market. After a decade in charge, Maurizio sold his shares of Gucci in 1993. Tragically, in 1995, he was assassinated in Milan in a murder-for-hire plot. Maurizio Gucci was an icon of the fashion industry, admired for his visionary business leadership, his passion for luxury, and his commitment to quality craftsmanship. He will be deeply missed.
