It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Randolph Hearst, who died on August 14th, 1951 at the age of 88. Bill, as he was commonly known, was born on April 29, 1863 in San Francisco, California. William was a pioneer in the media industry. He inherited the San Francisco Examiner from his father and was the founder of the Hearst Corporation, which was the largest media corporation in the United States at the time of his death and owned numerous papers, magazines, radio and television stations. He was an innovator who took new technologies and applied them in the world of media to his great success. He was one of the early adopters of radio broadcasting, introducing the first nationwide radio news in the United States on his Hearst owned KCAA station in Los Angeles. In addition to his media business, William was an avid collector of fine art and antiques. He also had a fascination with politics, and was an active participant in state and national politics throughout his life, providing support to a number of prominent politicians over the years, and running for office himself once. William was a pioneer in the media and will be fondly remembered for his contributions to the industry. He was a man of great vision and ambition, and his legacy will live on.
