On March 21, 1985, acclaimed actor Michael Redgrave passed away in Denham, Buckinghamshire, at the age of 77. Redgrave was born in Bristol, England, on March 20, 1908, to the couple Roy Redgrave and Margaret Scudamore. Michael Redgrave was widely revered for his esteemed stage, television and film career. He worked in the Royal Shakespeare Company alongside his daughter Vanessa Redgrave and his son, Corin Redgrave. His performance in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1938 film The Lady Vanishes was recognized with a BAFTA nomination. Additionally, Redgrave starred in films such as A Bridge Too Far (1977) and The Pumpkin Eater (1964), and won a Best Actor Academy Award for the film terms of Endearment (1983). Redgrave received many awards and accolades throughout his career, including the BAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1982, the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in 1975, and the Helen Hayes Award for Best Actor in 1982. For his film and television achievements, he was knighted in 1959. Michael Redgrave is survived by his sons Corin and Daniel Redgrave and his daughters Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave. He will be remembered as a great actor who changed the course of film and television history.
