Mileva Marić, née Mileva Marić-Einstein, passed away on 1948-08-04 in Zurich, Switzerland, at age 72. Born in Serbia in 1875, Mileva attended several secondary scores in Switzerland and became the only woman in 1896 to enroll in the academic program of the Zurich Polytechnic. She met future husband, Albert Einstein, at the institution in the same year, and the pair went on to marry in 1903. Regarded as a prolific mathematician in her own right, Mileva met with great academic success prior to her 1898 "Habilitation" doctoral thesis, a feat accomplished by only one other woman at the Polytechnic. She was noted for her contributions in mathematical physics, findings that would later influence and supplement the works of her infamous husband. Mileva leaves behind a legacy of incredible intellect, ambition and determination. Her memory will be honored and cherished by many both now and for years to come.
